My Personal Tips:
- Buy more paint than you need. Left overs will be appreciated if you ever need to do touch ups.
- Spot test if using old paint for touch ups - the colour can change over time even if it's sealed in the can.
- Pink to white Spackle or poly-filler is wonderful if you want to fill and paint on the same day. You really need to allow it to dry before you paint or sand so this stuff will save you time.
- Use painters/masking/blue tape. It takes twice as long to prepare for painting than actually painting, but this is half the time as it will take cleaning up spills and smudges!
- Corners and edges can be painted with a paint brush before you use a roller as the roller won't get to the edges and painting after rollering (is that a word?) will leave strokes.
- Wrap your roller and brush in plastic. Clingfilm, wrap or plastic bag. It will save the paint from drying out in the air. I read you can put it in the fridge, but I have had good results without.
- Line your paint tray with foil. Tray liners are a dollar each, I was using 3 or 4 different paints and only used one tray this way.
Our house is a BIG family home. Children live here. There are marks on the walls. From furniture moving in and moving out, there are a couple of dings. Everyone hangs pictures, TV brackets. But people who are buying a new house for their family, don't want marks and dings, they want to hang pictures where they want to. So I filled, fixed and painted.
Then the hard part - tidy and declutter and deep clean. But it is therapeutic and cleansing to the soul, but also leaves you with only one last thing to do - the real fun - Staging!
