I'll start with a bunch of photos of the outside - all the way around. The final few we climbed over the back "fence" and into the undergrowth to get the scale of the entire back of the house.
As promised on our Monday call, the roof is indeed going up this week, absolutely amazing how fast the framing is going - it will be an almost finished outside fully wrapped with shingled roof by next week, maybe even the end of this week given two full days left!! I'll start with a bunch of photos of the outside - all the way around. The final few we climbed over the back "fence" and into the undergrowth to get the scale of the entire back of the house. Next up, some inside shots - basement. Next up, inside shots of the first floor. And last but not least, our first look at the second floor because yours truly braved the rickety ladder left kindly by the workmen - bit of a gamble but paid off!

Wow, that didn't take long! Now we have a firm foundation we have walls - if for now just the basement walls. This was the first time I went onsite while the workmen were there working, just so they get used to me showing up every day I guess! It wont be long before I'll have to bite the bullet and go and get a hard hat - or even buy my own! First up - they brought one of the big stacks of wood on to the front yard - the one that was opposite our neighbors house - I'm guessing that it's going to be gone pretty quickly - considering there is another 3 big similar crates AND the roof up the road! Next up - Our basement walls - the outer panels around the garage show the height (i.e. walk up from the garage floor) to the house, and the approximate ceiling height of the basement. Looking at the option list, our basement includes 8'8" height as standard - it says "please consider purchasing option 070 - adding 1' to height if you intend to finish the basement". I'll say I did start freaking out a little bit - but right down the bottom, it says "Options 070 and 071 are included at no charge in Hasentree.". This is course made me calmer - and found that option 071 is a "Foundation Membrane System" - a small part of me thinks that a), you'd be foolish not to get it, and b) shouldn't a basement include it anyway?? To prove I was onsite while they were working I took a video - unfortunately no Spanish singing but I'll try and get some next time! Plan: Get kids to house before concrete dries - hand prints etc.
Reality: Too much work and four kids all hurrying fast = not likely. Backup: Hands prints in the driveway! However, floors are still great! Means once dry the framing will go up. Adele said two to three weeks we'll have a house - I honestly don't believe it. You can see the holes where the "floating" steel beam will go. We know it's a floating steel beam as there are some vlogs which show that if you concrete a floor to a wall, it's almost certain it will crack when it settles. Same with a steel beam - it needs to "move" as the house settles, so will be concreted separately. So quite excited to see a new maze... of pipes! This is our basement plumbing. We're certain the bathroom is in the best position around the middle but not blocking too much so easy access wherever you are.
We also have a wet bar rough in - which is closer to the wall. Our sump pump is pretty big but so is the basement. We figured they would need a LOT of gravel, and here it is. Filling up the are underneath the guest suite at the far end of the house probably took a truck in itself! Everything looks ready for concrete... THEY'RE BURYING OUR HOUSE!
Really though - Our Neighbor Lisa has been updating us with the progress of load after load of dirt! I hope there is still more to come - the grading of this lot is the most nerve racking part of the whole process. Considering we still have a 4,800 sq ft house to sell - that is a big statement! A huge piece of our lot is part of the drain easement and dry flood pond thingy, so having the rest of the lot on a steep slope is not good! So good to see the garage IS ground level and the drive height is great. The front porch is not going to be up stairs, like we have now. Not sure we will end up with a step out basement door though! We'll see... |
