Well we are getting spoiled with all the progress. It's amazing that every time we see the changes, we get even more excited. We paid for additional trees to be removed, but kept to the 10ft minimum. The 25ft deep back yard they initially cleared, seemed narrow considering that the house with the basement might sit high. There are some nice pine trees left and they are the proper pine cones rather than the spiked golf ball land mines that cover the back lawn in our current house! Roll on fall for crafting!

We had the first three hour appointment at the design studio this week. I thought it was a crazy amount of time, just for picking out some cabinets, tiles and tabs but I was schooled! Cindy is our design consultant and did an awesome job of guiding us through the options and keeping us on schedule. The first task was the kitchen. Sounds simple but with the options and upgrades it was like being on a merry-go-round. We get the first upgrade from the standard just for building in Hasentree. Matt wanted to get the cushion close which meant upgrading another level to 2. Then we were in for a penny so in for a pound and decided to get the glazed doors. With the smokehouse hardwood floor that we picked, the granite chose itself (to our taste at least) and we were a little relieved it was not an upgrade! We are waiting for appliance upgrade pricing before we decide what will be going in. Next was the bathroom. Slightly easier as the granite we wanted initially in the kitchen (that did not go with the floor and cabinets) was the first pick and everything else just came together. The picture is not picking up the gold/green tones in the granite. We picked out the guest suite bathroom, then in the last few minutes, decided to use the same choices across the other 3.5 bathrooms.
Still a few more trees to clear but the most of the destruction is done and ready for construction. The pictures were taken by our lovely new neighbor Lisa. The community pool opened this weekend and the girls had a great time with her daughter Gabby. Every time we go, we get more and more excited to get this process moved along and just move in already!
I read an amazing blog written by one of my future neighbors about her journey building her dream house in Hasentree. One of her posts was about visiting her lot and finding they had rocks! The knowledge of the process did not take anything away from the surprise and excitement! I am honored to follow the footsteps of such lovely people so had to also have a picture with my rocks... Tomorrow we have the lot walk-through and thought it was time we introduced ourselves to our new neighbors so they know who the creepers are that have been parking and snooping most evenings for the last couple of weeks!
Look, there's space for a house!!! Wish they could leave the wood - I could make an epic log cabin/tree house for the kids with that! (Well ok, me and my Dad could) We heard from Jason the Construction Manager this morning. We were busy so didn't notice to reply until this afternoon. But, he said they were planning on clearing our plot this week and he would be happy to meet us for a lot walk if we would like. Well OF COURSE we would! We can't wait to see where the house will be. We have not seen any drawings yet, but the best way to get a feel is to be standing there and looking - so Thursday is going to be a great day! How much they clear: So Toll Brothers clear whatever is needed in the front yard in order to maintain the proper topography and grade in the front yard. They clear 15 feet on each side of your home and also 25 feet in the rear of your home. Our lot is 111ft across the front and 124ft across the back. The house will be around 85ft wide, so will be good to see where it will sit. Right now we can see there is a clear row of trees (as in the third pic) in the rear. We did hope for some more cleared, so hopefully Thursday won't be too late for us to ask for more lawn space. "This is the week, this thing gets real" - Matt Tuesday this week we heard from the Toll Brothers Landscaper. He kindly sent an example landscaping plan for the house. We don't need to make any decisions yet, but it was nice to have a first colour concept drawing of our 'yard'. ![]()
![]() We couldn't do it... couldn't wait for our appointment to be booked - we had to browse! Toll Brothers requires you have 3 x 3hr visits to the Design Studio. Luckily for us, we work remote and together so will be able to fit the visits in to our schedule. Added bonus is that the design studio is walking distance to my favorite eating spot - Cracker Barrel. We came here once before, when we were deciding if Toll was who we wanted to build with (there are other builders at Hasentree) but this time, we parked in the space with a sign lol! So much choice....SOLD! I told Matt we shouldn't get too obsessed with the house and try not think about it for a few months while we pass the "2 month wait". So far we are failing miserably and it is consuming our thoughts. It is worse than the "2 week wait" that I happily will never experience again! There is so much fun stuff going to happen and a bit of stress and not so fun stuff too, I am sure. Writing this blog is for us to remember and maybe if a couple of readers are also in their "for a couple of months, it will look like nothing is happening, but really a lot is going on" wait, they can not get too obsessed, reading about us failing at the not getting obsessed.
